Dear
As my member of Congress, I want to thank you for taking a stand against all nuclear weapons by signing the ICAN Legislative Pledge. I am counting on you to encourage the Biden administration to make good on President Obama’s promise of a world without nuclear weapons. I am also hoping you will be able to convince more of your colleagues in congress to join you in signing this pledge and working for the elimination of all nuclear weapons from all countries.
With the entry into force of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons on January 22, 2021, it is clear that nuclear weapons have now been categorically rejected by the international community. The new Treaty puts these abhorrent weapons on the same legal footing as other indiscriminate and inhumane weapons, including biological weapons, chemical weapons, anti-personnel landmines and cluster munitions.
The time has come for the US government to take a clear and unequivocal stand in favor of the complete elimination of these weapons once and for all – before they eliminate us. Please continue to show your leadership in moving us closer to a nuclear weapon free world.
Kind regards,
